Welcoming a newborn into your life is a momentous occasion filled with joy and wonder. As your photographer, capturing these precious early moments is a privilege - and I take my job very seriously.
As parents we research everything before our baby is born, and then we choose the first photographer recommended on facebook because they’re a good deal.
Which I mean, makes sense, saving money is always nice, except, its not….
Let me explain ~
First, first, first. SAFETY.
Can you imagine researching everything prior to your baby’s arrival to hand your baby over to a photographer who literally has no idea how to safely pose your baby?
You need to trust your photographer entirely, with your baby’s safety , period.
This should be a non-negotiable. Even a new Calgary newborn photographer should at the bare minimum completed a safety course to keep your baby safe at all times.
Many photos you find on the internet are composites meaning we take two or more photos and put them together to create one photo. Many others have parents or assistants sitting beside the baby just removing their hand for a second and immediately back on baby to keep your baby, SAFE.
I absolutely recommend speaking to your photographer via a phone call or zoom call prior to booking your session to make sure you feel comfortable working with them.
Lots of our Parents [Dads] here at Ember + Coal can grab a nap on the couch during baby’s session, after the parent component is over, because we are able to safely and effectively pose your baby.
Will your photographer pick their top 10, and just send them to you?
Or will your photographer go through your images with you, and create a curated collection of images and products that you fall immediately in Love with, over and over for the rest of your life?

Whether this is your first baby or you're a seasoned parent, you don't want to be fussing about all the details in your babys first weeks of life. With our team, you can simply arrive to the studio, hair and makeup can be waiting on you should you choose, meanwhile we will get to work on photographing your babys solo photos.
Once you've been taken care of by our team of professional hair and makeup artists, we will move into family portraits. It might not seem appealing to have hair and makeup, but trust us, in those first days postpartum, someone handling the details, for you - is the best!
